8月13日至17日，中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理朱镕基来贵州省考察工作，省委书记钱运录、省长石秀诗等陪同考察。朱镕基在考察时强调，在当前世界经济增长明显放慢的情况下，要保持我国经济发展的良好势头，必须采取新的对策。要进一步从投资、消费两个方面扩大需要，千方百计增加外贸出口；同时，要加大整顿和规范市场经济秩序力度，继续巩固和发展国有企业改革与脱困成果，加快完善社会保障体系，促进国民经济持续快速健康发展。
朱镕基就整顿和规范市场经济秩序、加强生态环境保护和建设、搞好国有企业和社会保障工作进行了调查研究。先后到黔南布依族苗族自治州、安顺市和贵阳市等地，考察天然林保护和退耕还林情况、农村沼气、雨水集蓄工程、公路等基础设施建设、旅游资源开发和国有企业改革。他每到一地，都详细了解中央有关政策落实和群众生产生活的情况。他还就整顿和规范市场经济秩序、国有企业改革和社会保障问题分别召开了座谈会。考察期间，朱镕基听取了贵州省委、省政府的工作汇报，对贵州近几年各方面工作取得的明显进步和成绩给予了充分肯定。
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji urged the whole country to leave no stone unturned in its work to guarantee sound economic while the world econormy is undergoing an obvious slow-down.Zhu,also member of the standing committee of the political bureau of Communist Party of China's central committee,made the remark during his investigation tour of southwest China's Guizhou province from August 13 to 17.
Ｄuring his stay in Guizhou,the premier reviewed works such as natural forest conservation,afforestation,a rural marsh gas project,a rain-water collection project,infrastructure,tourism resource exploitation and state-owned enterprise reform.He also held several discussions on market order,reform of state-enterprises and social security system with local officials during his stay in Guizhou.
